Arriving early is highly recommended—not only do you avoid the midday sun, but you also beat the influx of crowds, especially tour buses that tend to arrive mid-morning. Note that ticket sales usually stop around 4:30pm, and you may not be allowed to enter close to closing time. Also, during special events like the Spring Equinox, extended hours or crowd-control protocols may be in effect.
If you’re visiting with a skip-the-line ticket, two to three hours is enough to explore the key landmarks at your own pace. This gives you time to walk along the Avenue of the Dead, see the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon, and take in the views. You won’t have time for in-depth exploration, but if you're efficient, you’ll still experience the grandeur of the site.
Book Teotihuacan Skip the line tickets!A guided tour is perfect if you want to understand the history rather than just admire the structures. With a guide, you’ll learn about Teotihuacán’s architecture, murals, and rituals. Many tours include stops at the Basilica of Guadalupe and Tlatelolco. You’ll also have time for a break at a local restaurant. If you want to take it all in without rushing, this is the best option.
Book Teotihuacan guided tourFor the ultimate Teotihuacán experience, go for a hot air balloon ride + guided tour combo. You’ll start before sunrise with a balloon flight over the pyramids, then explore the site on foot with a guide. Some packages also include visiting the pre-Hispanic caves or local artisan workshops. This is a full-day experience, perfect if you want to make the most of your visit.

You should leave by 7:30am to account for traffic and get there by 8am when the site opens. If you're taking the bus, catch one from Autobuses del Norte by 7am–7:30am for an early start.
Very strict. Guards start clearing visitors by 4:30pm, and by 4:50pm, they won’t let you linger. If you're inside the site, start heading toward the exit by 4:15pm to avoid being rushed out.
If you arrive after 3pm, you’ll have less than two hours inside. You can still walk the Avenue of the Dead, visit the Pyramid of the Sun, and take photos, but you won’t have time for detailed exploration or extra sites like the museum.
No, the site closes before sunset. If you want sunset views, your best bet is booking a hot air balloon ride in the late afternoon (some flights are scheduled around 5:00pm) or finding a nearby hill outside the complex for a view.
The best time is after 2:30pm on weekdays. Most tour groups leave by early afternoon, so you'll find the pyramids much quieter. If you want to avoid the biggest crowds, avoid Sundays entirely since locals get free entry.
